Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole. I can’t think of any other words that need to be said, the name of this recipe says it all!
So I fully admit I am not a tater tot casserole aficionado. My name is Jent and I did not grow up eating tater tot casserole. This is a whole new world to me that I am jumping head first into.
But the second I saw the recipe for Frisco Tater Tot Casserole over on These Old Cookbooks I knew I needed a Big Mac version!
I have loved Big Macs my entire life. While other little kids loved Happy Meals I was all “I need a Big Mac”!
Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!
In this case though, tater tots instead of a bun! But I didn’t forget the sesame seeds!
Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole
My husband had a t-shirt that had “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun” on it when he was a kid. And I don’t think I’ve ever been more jealous of anything in my life. I’ve searched Amazon and eBay for years to no avail.
Tips:
- You can totally make the special sauce up ahead of time, it actually makes it more flavorful because all the ingredients get to know each other.
- I put the tater tots on top of this hotdish so that they are crispy. In my other tater tot casserole I’ve put them on the bottom, they tend to turn out more like mashed potatoes that way.
- You can now find fast-food style pickles in the grocery store – I don’t think they taste any different but it’s fun!

Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole
Ingredients
Big Mac Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons French dressing
- 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
- 1 Tablespoon grated white onion
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Casserole
- 1 pound hamburger
- 1 medium white onion, diced
- 1 recipe Big Mac Sauce
- 6 slices American Cheese additional cheese if you would like to put some on top of the tator tots as well
- 2-3 cups frozen tater tots
- sesame seeds
- shredded lettuce
- dill pickles
Instructions
Big Mac Sauce
- Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and set aside. If not using right away store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Casserole
- In a skillet brown the hamburger and the onion until hamburger is completely done, drain grease.
- Add 1/2 of the Big Mac sauce to the hamburger and onion in the skillet and stir to combine.
- Spread the hamburger mixture in the bottom of a 9x9 casserole dish, layer the American cheese then add a layer of tater tots on the top, sprinkle on some sesame seeds.
- Bake in a pre-heated 375° oven for 35-40 minutes
- Once done serve with extra Big Mac Sauce, shredded lettuce and pickle slices
