This Creamy Dried Beef Gravy is a comfort food from my childhood! A basic gravy base with chipped beef as the meat. We always ate it on biscuits, I had no idea till I was a full-on adult that people eat this on toast most of the time.
So technically I have no idea the difference between dried beef and chipped beef – we always called it dried beef. My Mom always bought the little packets in the refrigerator section, I know it also is sold in the jar.
I start by cutting up the dried beef into small squares and frying in a cast iron skillet.
Gather the players – butter, because always butter, and flour!
Once the dried beef is warm and slightly crispy, add in your flour and butter. Combine until butter and flour are mixed into a roux.
Add your milk and stir until thickened.
Gravy is ready to eat when it holds onto the back of a spoon and running your finger through it it holds.
